SHOULD YOU SEW YOUR OWN WEDDING DRESS? A simple quick quiz to see if you're ready!

For the modern bride who loves making things her own, the question isn’t just what to wear — it’s whether you should make it yourself. Sewing your wedding dress is equal parts artistry, commitment, and self-knowledge. At VJ Seamsters, we champion thoughtful, skill-led design, and this 10-question quiz is crafted to help you decide if creating your dress will be a joyful creative journey or an unnecessary pressure on your big-day plans. Take a breath, take the quiz, and discover your perfect path.

There are 10 quick questions, which will help you to understand your skill level, readiness, and what support you’ll need. Each answer is worth 1 (Red), 2 (Amber), or 3 (Green) points. When you've finished the quiz we'll tot up the scores. Obviously, we've used a traffic light system so you'll get a personalised result showing whether you’re a Red (Stop & Wait), Amber (Pause & Prepare), or Green (Go For It!) bride. Check the

colour coding below for help and advice, which is dependant on the score you achieve in the quiz.

Red - Right now, you’re in the Stop & Wait zone. This doesn’t mean you can’t sew your wedding dress — it simply means you’d benefit from building a few skills and a clearer plan before committing to a full bridal project.

What this means for you:

  • You may not have enough sewing experience yet

  • Some techniques (fit, fabrics, finishing) could feel overwhelming

  • Your timeline or workspace might need adjusting

  • A simpler starting project will build your confidence.

Amber - You’re in the Pause & Prepare zone — which is a fantastic place to be. You have sewing experience, a growing vision for your dress, and the motivation to learn what you don’t yet know.

What this means for you:

  • You have the foundation to sew your dress

  • A bit more preparation will make the process smoother

  • You’ll benefit from clear guidance on fitting and fabric handling

  • Your timeline is workable with good planning

GreenAmazing — you’re in the Go For It zone! You have the skills, mindset, and timeline needed to confidently sew your wedding dress.

What this means for you:

  • Your sewing skills are strong

  • You can handle fitting and construction

  • You know what you want and have time to do it

  • You’re excited for the creative process
